Why don’t you get your Madrid bus tickets online? It’s the easiest and fastest way to find cheap bus tickets and book them in advance.
Unfortunately, the process itself is extremely inefficient. There are plenty of search engines for flights, sure, but booking bus tickets and linking everything together can be an exercise in frustration.
Depending on the trip you intend to do, you may buy your bus tickets through a big operator. But what if you plan to travel between two small destinations?
Not to mention that many local bus timetables aren’t available online.
In general, the Spanish bus companies’ websites are far from being user friendly: they doesn’t have a simple interface and some sections are not even translated into English…
Sometimes payment processors in Spain reject non-Spanish credit cards. That happens to many of my readers when they’re trying to book bus tickets, so it might happen to you too.
I know. It’s a pain in the back.
Fortunately, I’ve found the perfect solution for you (and for the rest of us!).
If you’re considering bus travel in Spain, look no further and book all your tickets online through Omio’s website. Buy your tickets whenever you like, and avoid the hassle of long lines at the bus stations’ ticket offices!
This is a detailed tutorial that will guide through all the steps you need to complete to safely purchase your ticket from your computer.
You can’t imagine how many readers have written me throughout the years looking for help because they couldn’t get their bus tickets at either the company website or most resellers. And I always give them same answer: Omio is the best option to purchase your Madrid bus tickets.
These are the main arguments behind my Omio recommendation:
The interface is very and and the booking process is smooth and stress-free.
But below is a detailed tutorial to help you buy your Madrid bus tickets using Omio‘s website in case you need additional help.
1. Go to www.omio.com.
Open your favorite browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox…), type “omio.com” and press Enter.
In less than a second, you’ll be at Omio‘s homepage. It looks like the image above.
2. Choose your language.
By default, the website is displayed in English.
But if it’s not, or you prefer to purchase your tickets in another language, click on the flag in the top menu and select the US or British flag.
3. Set the fares in euros (EUR).
The website displays the prices in euros by default.
However, you can easily change the currency. Just click on the ‘€’ sign to access a drop-down menu. There you can select to display prices in American dollars (USD), British pounds (GBP), Canadian dollars (CAD), Australian dollars (AUD), and several other currencies.
But since all prices in Spain are in euros (EUR), I suggest you to display the prices in this currency from the beginning.
4. Create a user account.
Even if you’re only going to buy one ticket, you should create an Omio user account.
Here are some advantages of being a registered user:
Follow these steps to register:

Make sure that you are now logged in. If not, do so.
Now it’s time to fill in the form on the left sidebar with your trip details and run a search.

Add as much passengers as necessary clicking on the ‘+’ sign. Don’t forget to include all children, including those younger than 4 years old.
In the unlikely event that you have a loyalty card, click on the slider “Add discount card”. Then click on the icon next to each passenger to add as many loyalty cards as necessary. Once you have added all loyalty cards, click on “Confirm”.

In short, buying your Spain bus tickets at the station is not a good idea. Book them in advance and save yourself lots of trouble.
